TYLin assessed the geological feasibility of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) that begins in Greece and crosses Albania and the Adriatic Sea before coming ashore in Italy.

TAP stands as a pivotal project within the Southern Gas Corridor. It transports gas from new sources in the Caspian region to Western and Southeastern Europe. The 871 kilometers of pipeline connects to existing gas networks and traverses Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea, making landfall in southern Italy and allowing gas to flow directly from the Caspian basin into European markets. TYLin played a crucial role in executing the Italian landfall in the municipality of Melendugno using microtunneling techniques to minimize coastal landscape and environmental impact. With this innovative approach, a 36-inch steel pipe was pulled through the tunnel, and in the final configuration, the tunnel was intentionally flooded with water.

In addition to providing expertise for the feasibility study, TYLin evaluated the microtunnel boring machines (MTBM) technical characteristics, final lining alternatives, and buoyancy before designing the segmental lining and its connection to the jacking pipes, showcasing our commitment to innovative and environmentally conscious tunneling solutions.
