Nathaniel Rogers House
TYLin provided structural engineering services throughout the multi-phase restoration of a building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This early 19th century house, also a local landmark, is one of only a handful of extant temple-front Greek Revival houses on Long Island. Over time, the house fell into disrepair – plagued by weak corner posts and a crumbling foundation – and was at risk of demolition until the Bridgehampton Citizens Advisory Committee called for its preservation.
TYLin has provided structural engineering services since the project’s initial phases in 2007. Phase I focused on stabilizing the building by repairing the foundation and by shoring up the fragile structure so that the five-section roof could be replaced. During Phase II, the project team replaced the windows and interior and exterior doors. Phase III fully restored the interior walls, floors, and ceilings; rebuilt the south wing; and renovated MEP systems.
Since the original cupola was removed in the 1940s due to persistent roof leaks, the project team installed a historically accurate replica in its “crown jewel” position. The Bridgehampton Museum plans to move its headquarters to the home’s second floor, setting aside exhibition space on the first floor to showcase the area’s history.
