Greeley and Hansen, A TYLin Company, provided design and construction services for the new Pearl River Lift Station and CSO Screening Facility.

As an early action item to the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Long-term Control Plan (LTCP), this project was part of an overall citywide plan by the Mayor to refurbish the City’s aging wastewater infrastructure. The new Pearl River Lift Station project replaced a lift station originally built in the 1950s that could no longer effectively handle the increased wastewater flows from a growing base of residential, commercial and industrial users. The larger, regionalized Pearl River Lift Station more than doubles the dry-weather pumping capacity of the original facility to 18 MGD.

The Pearl River Lift Station is able to easily accommodate future expansion to 55 mgd to handle wet weather flow from the 1 million gallon storage tunnel currently under construction.  The lift station utilizes three 6,250 gallon per minute dry-pit, 150 hp, submersible pumps with variable frequency drives attached to the motors.  To keep the pumps operational during power outages, a 350 KW external generator was also installed. To protect the pumps, channel grinders were installed instead of bar screens.  Tide-flex valves were installed to prevent water entering the lift station during flooding of the Wabash River. The new CSO screening facility prevents solids and floatables in combined sewer overflows from being released to the Wabash River. The screening structure can handle up to 200 million gallons per day of combined sewage that will flow into the new facility from the CSO storage tunnel once completed.
