Tulsa Third River Crossing Sewer

Greeley and Hansen, A TYLin Company, collaborated with the Tulsa Metropolitan Utility Authority to reduce sanitary sewer overflows.

The strategy to reduce sanitary sewer overflows included a new 42-inch sewer pipeline crossing the Arkansas River, which will supplement the two existing 36-inch sewer pipelines and provide additional conveyance capacity going into the 84-MGD Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant in Tulsa.

The construction of the new sewer pipeline consisted of installing two new concrete junction structures on the East and West banks of the river, installing approximately 1,800 linear feet of 42-inch Hobas fiberglass pipe encased in concrete. About 1,400 linear feet of the pipe was installed via open-cut trench utilizing an earthen berm system. Due to the nature of the river, some of the challenges included a short 5-month window to install the river crossing portion of the project. The effort included coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers to assist in maintaining the level of the river and notifications of when the upstream dam would be releasing additional flow based on the need for power generation and flood control. Engineering services included field investigations, condition assessment, hydraulic analysis, detailed design, permitting support, bid assistance, construction administration and inspection, and resident project representative services.
