NYC Water Main CM

Greeley and Hansen, A TYLin Company, delivered construction management and resident engineer inspection services for the installation of an essential trunk water main in Manhattan.

This project includes 48” and 36” trunk main work, distribution mains, regulators and flowmeters. Utility work includes replacement and upgrade to ConEd gas, electric and steam as well as communication cables. The water main was installed in an area known as Murray Hill, a residential community located along the East side of Manhattan. Extensive coordination was required due to the fact that the

Manhattan Approach to the Queens Midtown Tunnel falls within the work zone and the United Nations Building is nearby. Special events and construction embargo periods were regularly coordinated.

Unique features of this design and REI contract included the following:

• Strict traffic stipulations, some locations can only be worked during weekend periods.

• Coordination with the MTA due to the existence on the Queens Midtown Tunnel.

• Coordination with the United Nations, special events and construction embargos.

• Extensive utility conflicts, including ConEd steam lines.

Project Highlights:
  • Managed challenging utility coordination in the streets of Manhattan

  • Coordinated vehicular and pedestrian traffic in a busy construction site

  • Proactive communication with impacted communities
