Walnut Street Storm Sewer Improvements

Walnut Street Storm Sewer Improvements

Muncie, Indiana

Greeley and Hansen, A TYLin Company, partnered with the Muncie Sanitary District to design and construct a new storm sewer to improve storm water drainage in a major throughfare that was in disrepair.

Walnut Street crosses several Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) drainage basins.  This project was an opportunity to not only improve roadway surface drainage but to perform targeted sewer separation along Walnut Street to remove storm water from the combined sewer system.  This scope of work included performing the alternative analysis and coordination with the CSO Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) to right size any separation project.  Since Walnut Street was repaved, any sewer separation work performed in conjunction with the roadway work was more cost-effective when compared to sewer separation projects completed independent of the Walnut Street improvements. The Walnut Street storm sewer and roadway improvements were constructed under a guaranteed energy savings contract.

 Project Highlights:

  • Storm sewer and roadway surface drainage improvements
  • Alternative analysis and coordination with CSO Long Term Control Plan
  • Assistance in securing project funding
