Bay Head Yacht Club
TYLin provided structural engineering services to renovate and permanently raise a century-old structure located at the northern head of the Barnegat Bay.
After years of flooding, the owners of this 1920s yacht club decided to permanently raise the structure and repair the existing foundations and first floor. During design, Superstorm Sandy further damaged the structure. Based on observed flooding, the project team then revised the in-progress design to raise the structure more than ten feet, surpassing the new FEMA design flood elevation.
Executing this involved threading steel through the 110x65’ structure to support the historic building as it was separated from its old foundations, lifted, and temporarily relocated on the site. Once the construction team had installed new pile foundations and a new concrete platform, the existing building was returned to its original footprint. The scope of this project also included renovations to the existing structure and an adjacent new addition.
