Sagg Pond Residence

TYLin provided structural engineering services for a new single-family residence in the Hamptons.

This two-story single-family residence is wrapped in glass facades that are tucked under its cantilevered green roof. Engineered lumber beams and joists along with structural steel serve as the main structural elements of the house. TYLin used wood and reinforced masonry shear walls, in tandem with three steel moment braced frames at the central living area, to resist the lateral wind loads experienced in coastal areas of Long Island.

The main H-shaped residence features a column-free central living room that allows light to pour in through two parallel walls of glazing. A single stringer steel stair, made of a WT section and steel plates, connects the residence’s two levels. Although the separate tennis pavilion uses construction methods similar to the main residence, TYLin used W8 steel beams to achieve more dramatic cantilevers.

TYLin worked closely with the architect to do detailing of both the main residence and tennis pavilion, ensuring that various architectural elements such as perimeter shade pockets were properly coordinated with the structure prior to construction.
